A place to record some research links doing a 4-8-4 MCIP upgrade refresh, from 4 x A400 nodes, to 4 x A800 nodes.
System Refresh Documentation
We start with:
1) Start here: Choose between controller upgrade, system refresh, or expansion
We're doing a system refresh (which has similarities to expansion). So:
2) Choosing a system refresh method
Our method: Expand the MetroCluster configuration and then remove the old nodes.
3) Refresh a four-node or an eight-node MetroCluster IP configuration (ONTAP 9.8 and later)
The above will be the main procedure we'll be following.
Replacing the MCIP Switches
Note: I don't think the below is a great document.
Replace an IP switch or change the use of existing MetroCluster IP switches
We will need an RCF suitable for having 4-nodes of A400 and 4-nodes of A800 existing in the MetroCluster at the same time (RCF for an 8-node A800 should be fine.)
We will need a port mapping plan from old layout (A400 to old switch) to new layout (A400 and with A800).
We will need to validate all relevant softwares.
