Moving MetroClusters to Another Site

Some notes on moving MetroClusters.

Scenario. A customer is moving from one datacenter to the other. They have 2 MetroClusters (one IP, one FC), so we'll need to do some switchovers and get the hardware moved to the new site, then re-commission in the new site.

Information to Acquire and Review Before Planning Call

  1. The official documentation (which is important to follow closely for NetApp Support requirements) is here:
    1. Power off and power on a single site in a MetroCluster FC configuration
    2. Power off and power on a single site in a MetroCluster IP configuration
  2. Review the NetApp | Active IQ health status of the MetroCluster systems (check if any remediations need to be done before the move)
  3. NetApp - Active IQ Config Advisor output
    1. Similar to above, review any remediations.
  4. NetApp ConfigBuilder > Report > NetAppDocs As-Built : outputs (nice to have)
  5. Valid Support status (needs to be under hardware support, and make sure support are informed that it is moving).

Questions at Planning Call Before Move

  1. Site address for old and new sites?
  2. Technical contacts?
  3. What is the plan for moving the ISLs?
    1. Will we need to move ISLs to new external ports at UP site?
    2. [FC] What is the distance of the new ISLs (might need to reconfigure the Fabric Switches)?
  4. Rack space and power in new site?
  5. Networking in new site (will we need to re-IP anything)?
  6. Date and time?
