Good news, we now have the PURE Flash Array Serial Numbers in NetApp Data Infrastructure Insights.
There's a few serialNumbers in DII. The Storage object has a serialNumber, and the StorageNode object has parentSerialNumber and SerialNumber
- Storage.serialNumber = PURE Cluster UUID
- StorageNode.serialNumber = controller serial number
- StorageNode.parentSerialNumber = chassis serial number
For my customer, the chassis serial number was of specific interest since this is recorded into another system when PURE arrays are physically installed in the datacenter.
A note regards the UUID:
Have to live with UUID:
- It is highly relevant for Pure FA
array to array replication.
- Pure FA internally
references these UUIDs and DII needs to know these to properly report
array to array replication. DII uses these UUIDs as the one true ID of
Pure arrays.
- We cannot change the
Pure FA storage level serial number trivially, which is why we did not.
All Pure FA arrays have these UUIDs, regardless of what replication they
do, do not use.
- Also, if Pure as a company ever replaces the chassis, it may be that the UUID stays the same despite the chassis serial number changing.
