I encountered this error -

*> nicadmin convert -m 10G e4e

- whilst trying to do a headswap on the weekend.

We needed to plug 40G cluster ports into a switch with only 10G ports, so needed to do the convert 40G to 4 x 10G.

The fix was simple:

*> nic_fw update e4e

Network interface e4e current FW version: n5.05(e80008d4d)

Notice that it is actually downgrading the firmware from n5.05 to n5.04. It would appear to have been a bug. The new hardware shipped on 9.9.1 but I had to load 9.3P19 onto it for the headswap. I guess 9.3P19 did not understand n5.05.
