How to Upgrade NetApp E-Series

It is pretty simple to upgrade NetApp E-Series. I found the following KB link most useful:

Key thing is the upgrade order:

  1. SANtricity Storage management software (Always upgrade the storage management software first*)
  2. Multi-path/Failover driver
  3. HBA (Host Bus Adapter) driver
  4. NVSRAM (Non-Volatile Static Random Access Memory)
  5. E-Series Controller Firmware
  6. ESM (IOM) (Environment Services Module (Input/Output Module)) Firmware
  7. E-Series Drive Firmware
Note: Always read the release notes to see if there are any dependencies for the order for the upgrade, as it might change with a particular release.

*If you don't use the SANtricity Storage Manager client, you don't need this step.
